Why does the screen on my Sony LCD rear projection TV flicker?

Sometimes the screen on my Sony LCD rear projection TV will flicker. It won’t go off or anything and it’s mostly around the edges but it’s pretty annoying. We called Sony and I don’t think they knew what they were talking about. They said something about leaving the TV on the same channel for a few hours and that should take care of it. That doesn’t do anything at all. It seems to be happening more and more now. We are thinking it could mean that we need to change the bulb. Is that a possibility? Thanks!

    Flicker around the edges?

High possibility it being the bulb, if you had it for 1.5-3 years with out replacing it then it could very well be that.

Also AC lines can cause a flicker at a certian frequency.

I had the same problem and just changed the lamp this evening. That was it! The set’s almost 3 years old and the original lamp was flickering like a flourescent tube. It’s been on with the new lamp for a few hours now with now problems at all.

It’s easy to replace and, at $200(US), a lot cheaper to do yourself. You’ll be surprised at the difference in picture brightness, too.

    Good luck!
