Which HDTV type is best for gaming?

We’ve had a Magnavox 46″ Projection for about 15 years. I bought a PS3 last winter. We are looking into HDTV’s. Let me tell you now that gaming and general tv viewing will be the main uses of the HDTV. I wont be using it for PC Hookup. It will be placed in our living room, which receives average light on sunny days though we have curtains to darken the room. I would prefer an HDTV that has very fast response time, 1080p, and high contrast ratio. Also, if we get an HDTV, we will be getting HD from Directv as well. My question is what HDTV type is best for GAMING AND GENERAL VIEWING, MY TOP PREFERENCES. LCD or Plasma? I’m not concerned with burn-in so dont reply with lcd because of burn in. Most of the Tv’s now come in with burn-in protected abilities. I wont leave my screen on for a long period of time. So, again, Which HDTV type is best for gaming and general viewing, plasma or LCD?

If you just look at the pictures personally Plasma’s have the pretty picture. But for cost and 1080P I would strongly push you to a DLP rear projection from Samsung. Awsome response, Awsome color, Cheaper then a Sony SXRD. When I worked at Sam’s Club I hooked a PS3 via HDMI to one and it looked awsome. Uped my sales for the PS3 in the process LOL. I can’t really think of anything else to say. If you really want flat panel though just make sure you do the research and get high contrast ratio and fast response. I would strongly lean towards the rear projections though with DLP.

i like LCD because plasma screens have glass screens and it reflects light a lot but LCD are plastic screens and textured or most are so you don’t see much glare from lights and sunlight. but this is my opinion i would be sure to check and see which ones you will get the most glare off of.

DLP are best, then goes LCD and then Plasma. Even though Plasma isn’t ideal for gaming because it increases the chances of burn-ins, I still use plasma for gaming because it doesn’t get motion blur like LCD’s and it doesn’t lag, and the black levels on the games I play aren’t gray.

This Dave Le guy is an idiot. First he lists that DLP is best and Plasma is worst, then he gives reasons why Plasma is superior to both, and states that he still uses plasma, even though it is (according to him) the worst. What a tool.

Really, LCD has motion blur and lagginess to it. DLP is the WORST in the lag department, with some tvs having a game mode because otherwise it is so bad it is unplayable. Plasma – Best picture, No lag, no blur or ghosting, really is the best. Only problem with plasma is that if you play for a long time, you cn get image retention, which can lead to burn-in, so you need to be careful.

If you are buying this tv solely for gaming I would buy a LCD. If you will be using the tv for movies and tv viewing as well as gaming, I would go with Plasma. (Flat out best picture with movies.) Stay away from DLP altogether, the bulb changing is a nightmare.

Your BEST bang for the buck will STILL BE CRT PROJECTION—even with gaming ! Better colors, better response time is what makes this TV still excel……

But if you want the NEWER TECHNOLOGY……LCD is by far the overall best….LOOK for Sony’s WAX 3 chassis for gaming…they have the NEW motion flow technology which keeps hi speed movement/action razor sharp !

The XBR4 models have it, along with some of the V and S models….Just ask for a “WAX 3″ chassis with “MOTION FLOW” technology, or the “120 Hertz refresh rate” TVs.

One of those three will trigger the salesman’s memory…..
