What kind of television should I buy?
I’m planning on buying a PS3 in the next couple of months and I figure I need a new television to go with it (I currently own a very, very, old TV). Thing is, I have no idea what to get. All I know is:
(Price Range)
I don’t feel like spending over $1000 and with the PS3 currently priced at $299 that leaves me $700 for a television.
(Viewing Distance)
I measured it out to 80 or 105 inches (on top of dresser or mounted on wall).
(Video Games)
More than likely I’ll be playing them often. So, it’s important that the games look good.
That’s about it.
BTW, I don’t need a specific television just a general idea of what to look for – i.e, Rear projection, LCD, Plasma, 1080i, 1080p, 720p, etc.
Thanks in advance!

Just get the cheapest LCD HD TV set you can find.
No need to spend the total some of $700
TV’s will come down in price after Christmas
Cheers from DOWNUNDER
Wait till Christmas so the prices go down, then buy a Samsung
Because of you OLD TV ! should be CRT TV. that prefect in many area compare to LCD TV.
CRT TV with out ” motion blur ”
Standard entry lever LCD TV ( 5 / 6 ms some even 8 ms, Response time , 60 HZ refresh rate ) will give you FREE ” motion blur ” .if you play games / sports movies , is very uncomfortable to you eye, if you use to CRT TV.
Hi END LCD TV with 4ms response time / 120 or even 200 HZ refresh rate model, cost much more.* ” motion blur ” will not totally ” cut off “, but it able to ” HIDE AWAY ” .that make our eye more Comfort to sports movies / games.
Plasma TV with out any ” motion blur ” prefect in colours display / prefect in games / sports movies.
because of close to 0 response time and 600 HZ refresh rate. New Panasonic Plasma TV with out ” burn in ” issue ” , even long hours for games / still image for over night . 42 inc 720P 600 HZ model should be the prefect TV * view distance okay to you * around you budget. TC-P42XI prices as $750.oo

If you need only screen size below 40 inc. only look for hi end LCD TV .is cost even more compare to Panasonic 42 inc Plasma . still lose out to Plasma quality.
New LED TV is close to Plasma quality , very well ” cover ” the motion blur . but 2 X prices to paid. out of you budget.
Go for Panasonic Plasma . ” PREFECT ” in pictures quality / games , RELIABLE ! PREFECT in PRICES TOO !
what is motion blur ? look at the ball.

Excellent specs on this TV for the money and full 1080P make it a great value for your buck. The picture quality is superb for an LCD (We also have a larger plasma) and the hookup is extremely easy and idiot proof.
I would recommend getting the service contract as you can always cancel it at a later date for a full refund and you will be totally satisfied with your purchase.
Samsung is one of the only manufacturers that DOES stand behind its products and comes out to repair it if it fails. Our 50″ plasma had a power failure problem after about 4 months and a service tech came out within 2 days and replaced the damaged curcuit board for free. This was great because Circuit City where we bought the TV was gone!
Yet another good reason to purchase this from Sears and get the warranty.
By the way I price shopped this TV hard, and Sears was dollar for dollar against everyone else!
Samsung LN40B530 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I prefer Samsung Media 2.0, excellent series for people like me and you, offers great cutting edge technology, I think 36 or 32 inches will be good choice, ideally 32 inches.
I suggest you
Samsung LN32B550 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Colour

Currently on huge discount at Amazon, best price to buy and offers great value.
With some highlighted stuff
70,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 6ms response time, Wide Colour Enhancer 2 for more vivid colours (gives look like plasma and offer same colour richness in less prices, and less trouble)
Game mode speeds up image processing response; side-mounted USB port for displaying JPEG
(Very important, generally many games admit that plasma tvs and old LCD TVs don’t offer excellent gaming experience, if you play constantly than plasma has problems like burn in and something similar to screens. Cheap and technically backward LCD (before march 2009) don’t refresh quickly and that makes quality of game really worst). So it’s better to go with new technology for new console, PS3 is recommended on highly refreshing screen for better quality of gaming.
files and listening to MP3 audio (cool value on price)
Inputs: 4 HDMI-CEC, 2 component, 1 composite, 1 PC, 1 USB, 1 optical digital audio output
You can play PC games on TV, offers USB drive to view movies, pictures etc, 4 HDMI will make sure you have enough plugs to connect many things at same time.
I don’t see better justification for the TV for gamer, specially PS3 or latest xbox. I am a die heart gamer and a CE reviewer, I don’t find better than this at this moment at this price.
You can check other LCDs at

I will suggest, avoid plasma if you are really die heart gamer, and plays constantly. Plasma has many burn-in problem, companies justify the problem to just sell out the stock and make more sales, but so far none of them can denied the problem. It’s up to you.
It depends on the brightness of the room you will be playing in. If it is a bright room, you will want a LCD TV. If it is a darker room then your best option is a Plasma TV. I have included a link that reviews pricing verses quality of picture.
