If the TV is a LCD-type or DLP-type projection, it can not burn in, which is what I assume you are worried about.
The burn-in effect only works on CRT-based projection TVs. Areas of the phosphor become permanently brightened, but because LCD and DLP-based TVs do not use phosphor, this can’t happen.
What is the model number of your Toshiba?
Damage risk depends on the projection technology that’s being used on your Toshiba.
If the set uses CRT projectors (picture tubes), then the damage comes from burn-in of static images on the screen. The projector CRTs operate at high power, which can burn static images on the phosphors if left on for long enough.
However, most, if not all, electronics companies have stopped making CRT-based RPTV sets for quite some time.
If your Toshiba HDTV is relatively new, then it’s most likely that it uses DLP or LCD projection technologies. In that case, burn-in is not an issue at all which means you can use the NES with such a set without any risk of damage.
