We replaced the lamp two months ago. Now the same thing happens when we turn the tv on. It sounds like a motor or generator noise. Picture will come on and the whirring noise dies down and then the picture goes out…after a few minutes it comes on and same thing happens. We have had the tv for 2 years. Do you have any advise? I’ve called RCA but no help.

Hello! So I’ve decided to start looking around for the bulb that goes in place of the lamp housing for a Samsung LCD Rear Projection DLP television. Ever since I bought the tv, the lamp seemed to go out every year. What bulb do these tv’s use? My model # HLT5075SX/XAC. and the Lamps model # is BP96-01653A. Thanks in advance.

So my parents just got two new TV’s because their old 55′ Samsung rear projection dlp is giving them problems. It get’s pixelated with green squares, then immediately freezes to the point where the remote is unresponsive and you must unplug it. The longer you let it rest it seems, the longer it stays on the next time, but eventually it will do the same thing again. This leads me to think that it’s a overheating issue with the lamp.
They were just going to trash it, but I thought it would be such a waste so I offered to take it and see if I could fix it. I have no expereince fixing TV’s so I asked a friend and they said it might be the filter behind the lamp that might need replacing, which is only $20. If not that then I really don’t know what to do next.
Suggestions on what else this could be?
My friend was talking about an air filter that can get clogged. Supposedly there’s a grid you can take off the back and behind the bulb should be an air filter.
Okay, where could I find a new board for such an old model? It’s a Samsung HL-S5687W 56 inch.

The TV is 2 1/2 years old, I have replaced the bulb twice. When the first bulb was replaced (10 months ago), the growing blue spot in the lower right hand corner of the screen cleared up. I recently replaced with the second bulb, but instead of clearing up, the blue area is growing larger. What is the cause? How can I repair it? Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated. My husband is disabled and recuperating from neck surgery — the TV is his pride and joy and main source of entertainment.
Both replaced bulbs were Sony — and not cheap! $200.00 plus tax and shipping/handling. Ouch!
After considerable investigation, discovered that Sony is aware of this problem and qualified repair person will replace defective optical block at NO CHARGE.

I bought an older rear projection TV from a sub-contractor last year (it’s something around an ’03 if I remember right) and it’s been a good TV. Just recently the picture went blank but I still had audio. Because the PS3 (used as DVD player mostly) goes first into a 5.1 theater box I decided to check the connections between the box and TV. I bypassed the whole box and used composite directly into the TV and still had no signal. I switched cables and used the RCA that came with the PS3 and still had no signal. I unplugged the TV and let it sit overnight, then plugged it back in and after going through the setup I had signal again. It has gone out similarly two more times since then and it’s slightly annoying at this point. From what I remember from these type of TVs (Only ever worked on them once or twice) there are three different lamps for the three primary light colors, so there can’t just be a bad lamp. Is this some sort of circuiting problem, overheating or something like that? I seem to remember the TV having a slight ‘flicker’ where there’s a few horizontal lines that ‘walk’ down the screen when it goes ‘black’ (not off, but that dark gray).
What are the likely things that could be broke?
How hard are they to fix?
How cost effective is it to fix the TV opposed to a new one (assumed around $600 or so) or a used one?
Thank you in advance for your knowledgeable advice.

Hola,
I came across a used big screen recently. I bought it, and everything works, but the picture is pretty foggy/faded. It’s a Sony Videoscope XBR (model #KP-53XBR45). Does anyone know if there’s a quick/cheap/easy solution to my picture problems? It would be a great tv if the picture were better.
Thanks in advance!
