one of the channels I watch most often only shows picture for a couple of seconds and goes black, leaving audio only. This is the only channel that it does it on. Other tvs in house connected to cable on that channel have no problems. What is the problem? tv or cable box? This model of tv has problems with the lamp and the ballast, but that does not seem to be the problem…Help
it is hooked up to a cable box and vcr/dvd player recorder. the channel that is not working right is channel 9.

We replaced the lamp two months ago. Now the same thing happens when we turn the tv on. It sounds like a motor or generator noise. Picture will come on and the whirring noise dies down and then the picture goes out…after a few minutes it comes on and same thing happens. We have had the tv for 2 years. Do you have any advise? I’ve called RCA but no help.

Hi, I’m in the market for a new rear projection HDTV. A friend can get me a great deal on a 57in. Toshiba, we’re talking about at cost! Toshiba utilizes the DLP technology, does anyone know if this is better than Sony’s technology? It’s much cheaper. I’ve also heard that DLPs don’t last long and you have to replace a light bulb after like two years? Anyone know anything about this? I’m open for any advice. I’m pretty much thinking SONY/SAMSUNG/TOSHIBA. I should be able to get a good deal on those brands because thats what my friend’s store carries, but Toshiba is the cheapest to buy, I just don’t want to sacrifice quality to say a couple hundred, but I don’t want to pay more than I have to just to have the SONY tag on the front of my tv.

I am looking for an HDTV (720p) to be connected to PC to watch movies (using PC RGB cable). I wonder if the picture would look right without being stretched or squeezed.
If the TV’s resolution is 1024×768 (some cheaper models), I suspect the picture might look stretched because PC’s 1024×768 resolution is 3:4 ratio.
If the TV’s resolution is 1366×768, what is the PC video mode going to be, 1280×720, 1024×768 or something else? Note that most video adapters do not support 1366×768 resolution.
What do you get if you use an s-video cable (my second choice to RGB cable)?
What if the TV’s resolution is 1280×720 (as many rear projection HDTVs)?
Is some brand (or model) better than others at handling PC video?
I would like to hear some real life experiences.
It would help me choose the right HDTV.
I guess I did not make myself clear.
What I am concerned about is if the circle on computer monitor would look circle on TV instead of looking oval.

The TV is 2 1/2 years old, I have replaced the bulb twice. When the first bulb was replaced (10 months ago), the growing blue spot in the lower right hand corner of the screen cleared up. I recently replaced with the second bulb, but instead of clearing up, the blue area is growing larger. What is the cause? How can I repair it? Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated. My husband is disabled and recuperating from neck surgery — the TV is his pride and joy and main source of entertainment.
Both replaced bulbs were Sony — and not cheap! $200.00 plus tax and shipping/handling. Ouch!
After considerable investigation, discovered that Sony is aware of this problem and qualified repair person will replace defective optical block at NO CHARGE.

I currently have a 50″ rear projection HDTV monitor I connect to my cabe box and use a a television. I haven’t bought a TV for years becuase I have utilized the signal processor in the cable box. With the new technology, is there really any benefit of buying a TV opposed to a monitor if I have an HDTV cable box?

I have an older projection 52 ” Toshiba HDTV that uses a bulb to project the image on the TV. My parents were told by someone (they won’t reveal sources) that this will burn an image on the TV and the Bulb will last shorter. I don’t believe that’s possible but they do and there dead set against using the TV for the 360 but i would like to prove them wrong.
So is it true that the Older HDTV (we’ve given it the nickname the grandfather of HD because it cannot play 1080p only 720p) cannot play the X box 360 even in Standard Definition

I want to hook my PC up to my 52″ RCA (Thomson inc) rear projection HDTV model d52w14. I plan to use DVI out of my PC to component in on the TV. Can anyone tell me what the resolution of my TV is and what res it will handle?
IE:
720p = 1280×720@60Hz
1080i = 1920×1080@29.9/30Hz
1080p = 1920×1080@60Hz

i have a 56″ rear projection hdtv from jvc, model # 56g886. I was told the lamp would run out after about 2,000 hours of use. After using it for maybe 4 hours a day for one year, i tried to turn it on and it wouldnt turn on, just the led and the power light were blinking rapidly. According to JVC’s website, this means the lamp has burnt out. I tried turning the tv on again, and now it works fine. Does this mean my lamp is close to going out, or just a freak coincidence? I would rather not order a lamp if nothings wrong, as they run about $300. But I also don’t want to wait a week with no tv while a new lamp is in the mail. Thanks for your time!!!!

I’m looking for a 46″ or 50″ big screen TV. My budget is around $900 – $1100. I’m not to concerned with the type of TV, wether it’s LCD, Plasma or Projection. Although, this new TVs main purpose is for gaming, so it must have HDMI and at least 720p. I’m also worried about latency as I’ve read that some newer televisions can be a little slow to display the image due to the image processing that takes place. Does anyone have any good recomendations as to a tv brand or type that fills all these criteria and is within my budget? I’m not opposed to purchasing online although I still want to stay within my budget after tax and shipping fees.

i was looking at an HD projector that costs 900-1000 but was wondering if it would be better or equal to an LCD HDTV of a similar price. i will be using it for watching TV and movies. i will have it in a somewhat dark room and use a grey projector screen. unless a white screen would be better. would i be better off getting a 50″ lcd tv or would the 100″ projector screen make it worth it? here’s some info on the projector:
The Optima HD20 operates at a native 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), while it also is compatible with most computer formats, such as UXGA, WXGA, SXGA+, SXGA, XGA, SVGA, VGA resized, VESA, PC and Macintosh It can also accept common global video inputs and video formats up to 1080p (HDTV, EDTV, SDTV, NTSC, PAL, SECAM). Like all Optoma projectors, the DLP engine operates without filters, keeping ownership and maintenance costs low while ensuring consistent performance throughout the projector’s life. The projection lamp is rated to last up to 4000 hours in standard mode or 3000 hours in bright mode. The HD20 also incorporates a rapid shutdown feature that further reduces ownership costs, and it comes with a one-year parts and labor warranty, with the lamp being covered for 90 days.

Hello,
I’m very happy with my KDF-60WF655 which I bought newly refurbished from a Sony repair shop for $400 (all new Sony guts!). I typically frown on rear-projection, yet I’m able to see the picture great from almost any angle in my living room and the picture size is huge!
My only disappointment came when I learned that I cannot get 1080p on this set. Is this correct? I was really looking forward to getting a Blu-Ray player. Am I wasting my time with Blu-Ray if my TV can’t do 1080p?
Thank you.
