I have an old(ish) Sony rear projection TV. I think it’s a 32″ model, number KPW41MN11. Recently it’s started ‘flickering’ when I turn it on, and tonight it started actually ‘flashing’, by which I mean the picture sort of ‘pulses’ on and off at a rate of about one ‘flash’ per second.

I’ve opened her up and it seems like the red and green ‘lamps’ (I don’t know if that’s what they are, forgive my ignorance!) are flashing this way but the blue seems to be fine. It’s quite an old TV and was given to me for free, but I’d still like to try and repair it if at all possible. It’s probably not worth the cost of new lamps (I hear they can be quite expensive) but if the lamps are just ‘flashing’ rather than not functioning at all then I figured maybe it’s just a dodgy capacitor or something on one of the boards?

If anyone has any insight please let me know. As I say, it’s an old(ish) unit (as in maybe 10 years?) but I’d like to know if it’s likely to cost more than its’ worth to fix.

So I have a 56″ Samsung LCD Projection TV, and just recently 2 days ago the lamp burnt out. I had this tv for about 1-1/2 years and the lamp already burnt. Also throughout my use of this TV, I sometimes can hear little popping noises, almost like the sound u get from when u burn firewood, and u makes the pop/crackle noise. Is there something wrong with my TV? I noticed the lamp went out because on the rear side, where the lamp sits, there used to be a light, but 2 days ago that light no longer lit up. So that’s how I knew. But I don’t get what the noises coming from inside are.

Please no jokes, I’m serious because I spent about $1,000 on this TV and I just don’t get what the noises are!

I have a Sony KF-55E200A TV (Rear projection) that uses a Sony XL-2400 lamp. The TV has been purchased recently and has run for around 100-200 hours.

I have recently started hearing a faint buzzing sound from behind the TV and seems to be more intense on the side of the lamp. I first thought it to be the fan sound. Today when I switched off the TV, I realized that the sound was related to the lamp somehow. As soon as I switched off the TV, the sound stopped. The fan was still working. The fans stopped after a couple of minutes.

What can be the cause of the sound? Is it something harmful? How to remove this buzzing sound?

My TV is about 5 years old & the color just randomly goes to black & white & if I change the channel, it goes back for a while. Sometimes it doesn’t do it all day, other times it does it right after I turn the tv on. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

I should probably just go get a new TV huh.

I have a Asus CPU hooked to my Hitachi CRT projection via an HDMI cable. I want to send the audio from the TV to an LG Surround System. The problem is…I have to run a Red/White cord from the “Audio Out to Hi-Fi” to the Component……its not working…is the HDMI overriding it? Hi I have a 2003 55″ Mitsubishi rear projection 1080i tv (not pure hd, it upconverts). Would there is a big difference between the picture I am getting with this and the picture I would get with a new 1080p 1920 x 1080p native resolution television with all the new technologies? A lot of freinds say there wouldn’t be a big difference… but I’m not sure, and can’t really tell without a side by side comparison.

If it would be a big difference I would have a budget of $3,000.

I play a lot of xbox 360 and also have a blu ray player, and I have high def tv programming if that matters…
