I bought an open box Sony rear projection LCD TV from Best Buy 2 wks ago and bought the 4 yr PSP. I normally wouldn’t but since this was an open box and RP-LCDs need lamp replacements, I figured the PSP at $200, based on my purchase price of $765, was a good deal since the bulb itself costs $200 (yes, the PSP does cover 1 bulb replacement).

I’ve subsequently found that you can purchase the Sony 5 yr extended warranty direct from Sony for $100 (no stated limit on bulbs).

So my dilema is that the Sony one is obviously the better deal in that it is for a longer period and is cheaper. However, the plan details state that they cover for the price paid, not the value of the TV ($1799). When I purchased the PSP from BB, the rep clearly said that their plan covers me for the value. At first, I thought that was great, but the more I think about it, I find it to be unlikely. If that is the case, then it makes sense to return the BB PSP and purchase the Sony extended warranty, right?

My old TV in the living room finally died out (it was rear projection so the lamp burned out). I now want to get a projector set-up in the room. I’ve got a room thats 10 ft wide by 7.5 ft high so a 16:9 Screen would have a diagonal size of 138″. So I want to get a nice projector, that is bright enough to be viewed in moderate light. I mainly watch TV in that room at night (movies) but I occasionally watch it during the day (mainly during football season). I also want to know what the best type of screen material and type is. Regarding sound system I want a nice looking system which isn’t very noticeable. I’ve done some research and I like the BenQ SP890 projector but its quite a lot of money, I don’t want to spend more that 2,000 but I’m willing to spend 3,000 on the projector, the projector should have atleast one HDMI port (because I can just get a switcher, and one component port) (I have a PS3, a Wii and a cable box to hook up). Regarding screen I don’t want pay more than 1,000. In terms of sound system I’m willing to pay up to 3,000 but I’d like to spend less, more around 2,000 or less. A sound system that is capable of multi-room wireless would be nice because I am thinking of doing that. In addition, what is the best receiver to get for my system? Thanks for all your help! When it comes to quality of LCD TVs vs. Projectors in ambient light I am not picky, I know there is a BIG difference but I’m more in it for size than quality. Worst Case Scenario for me: I get a projector, don’t like the quality, then send it back (I’ve checked the warranty, 4 lamp hours or less) and get a cheaper projector only for the dark and then get a nice TV, like the Mitsubishi 73″ or maybe the 82″ DLP TVs.

I’m looking for a 46″ or 50″ big screen TV. My budget is around $900 – $1100. I’m not to concerned with the type of TV, wether it’s LCD, Plasma or Projection. Although, this new TVs main purpose is for gaming, so it must have HDMI and at least 720p. I’m also worried about latency as I’ve read that some newer televisions can be a little slow to display the image due to the image processing that takes place. Does anyone have any good recomendations as to a tv brand or type that fills all these criteria and is within my budget? I’m not opposed to purchasing online although I still want to stay within my budget after tax and shipping fees.

my husband and i have a 42″ projection screen tv with an entertainment center. we need it shipped from beverly,ma to waverly,oh. packaged it would be about 50″ long,30″wide and 48″tall. it also weighs about 60 lbs.(im guessing) we also are planning on getting insurance for it. we value the tv at about $2000 but it may be less

what would be the best and cheapest way to ship it?
we do not want to get rid of the tv.our plan is to ship the tv here and get rid of the tv we have now since we pay on it through rent to own which would also lower our payments on everything else we’re paying on

Which is best for the money? I’ve narrowed it down to the KDL-52XBR4, KDL-52W3000, and KDS-60A3000. The KDL-52XBR4 and KDL-52W3000 seem almost identical. Are the minor differences worth the extra $500? Also, the KDS-60A3000 is the biggest and cheapest out of these. But is it really true that for rear projection tv’s the bulb needs to be replaced every couple of years?
