Ok so my Birthdays coming up pretty soon and ive been wanting to get an Hd tv to put in my room to play my xbox primarily just to chill. My xbox used to be hooked up to our living room Hd tv which is a Lg 60 inch i think but we moved it so it wouldn’t get in the way of stuff. We moved it to another 70inch tv we have although its about ten years old and one of those big bulky rear projection ones and i cant really play any of my games on there. Ive been doing a little looking for tvs and such and i don’t know if the difference between 1080p and 720p is all that significant. I play battlefield 2 bad company and its hard to see on our old tv so Picture quality is my Main concern and i want at least a 32 inch tv. So ok back again, is the 720 and 1080 difference that big of a deal or will the 720 have fine enough picture quality as is?

sorry for the shpeil

I’ve been playing my xbox 360 on 1080p ever since I bought my xbox. After I brought my xbox with me on a trip and tried to hook it back up to my tv, it would turn on and there would be sound but no picture.

I tried plugging it in into different component ports on the back of the tv, that didn’t do anything. Then I tried using a different xbox component cable, that didn’t work.

I used the xbox on another tv that has HD and it worked fine. I then clicked the switch to TV instead of hdtv and it finally worked.

So the highest setting the xbox will go on this tv is 480p. Any ideas why this is happening? My tv is a Panasonic with HDTV Projection Monitor (Model number PT-56TW53)

I had it special ordered and it cost $10,000 it says it is a 1080 and it isn’t the kind of tv you can just go pick up at best buy. It doesn’t get much use now that the kinds have been out of the house for a few years. I expect the value to be a lot lower then I bought it for but I don’t want to give it away for free.

It seems to me that progressive scan is progressive scan, and means the same thing in each kind of TV? In other words, how can you have BOTH interlaced AND progressive scan at the same time when they mean opposite things?

(BTW, it is a 51″ HDTV CRT rear projection, so is the “i” and “p” might not make as much difference as on an LCD?)
The first two answers answered my question, albeit from two different ways! Appreciated! With further research, it has a native resolution of 1080i, and upconverts 720p. So that clears it up. I got it for free, so it’s all good, but just wanted to know what I was dealing with. THANKS!

Is this the right move for the type of TV I should buy? Or should I stoop down a bit and get a Rear Projection that is still 100% 1080p and is bigger but isnt a flat screen?

I am pretty set on going for the LCD Flat Screen and I have been looking at prices and Models. I refuse to go over 1,299.00$ base price. SO far I have got the feel that the Toshiba is the smartest move for this, BUT is there any other good options I can go with?

So far there are two TV’s that have caught my eye:

http://www.buy.com/prod/toshiba-46rf350u-46-theaterwide-1080p-lcd-hdtv-super-narrow-bezel/q/loc/111/205510062.html

http://www.buy.com/prod/toshiba-42rv530u-42-1080p-lcd-hdtv-w-built-in-ntsc-atsc-tuner-high/q/loc/111/207391441.html

Also one rear projection looks real good too:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8753734&st=tv&lp=8&type=product&cp=11&id=1202649765525

I also refuse to go with Plasma. I never liked it.

And the placement of the tv is a pretty open area, so depth won’t be that big of a problem, although I am possibly thinking about a mount. But I also like the flat panel much better. I would only go withthe Rear Projection if somebody would sell me on it.
