Sony 60″ SXRD 1080p XBR Rear Projection HDTV SUCKS!?
Hello,
I just bought the Sony KDS-R60XBR2 60″ SXRD 1080p XBR Rear Projection HDTV for a good amount of money. However i brought it home and set it up but was disappointed.
- It takes 1 minute and 5 seconds for the thing to turn on, which is such ridiculous.
- The colors are sooo off its not even funny
- Not worth the money i bought it for
Im confused because i spent a lot of time researching and this tv was one of the best sellers and had great reviews on various reliable sites.
I feel like returning it and sticking to my old-school 60 inch big screen tv.
what you think?? am i alone in this???

Rear projection means lamp that needs to power up light
and then a sensor tells IRIS to open when unit is ready
1 minute is not a bad time
The colors OFF that is most likely CONDENSATION
on the mirror. You drive down the road at 50 mph
that cools the air around the TV.
You bring it in the house it warms up water condenses on the mirror.
Turn it on let it run watch the picture get better
If after 2 days you still have problems
start with this
tune to channel 14 and unhook the antenna/cable
look at the grey/white dots on the screen
If they appear focused and dont have colored shadows
check you hook up wiring for mistakes
If they appear out of focus or colored like red green and blue
dots sorta over lapping or worse
TAKE it back demand a replacement
Also call the store immediately and report a problem
some stores have a 3 day return policy
Have you calibrated it? Look into AVIA and DVE calibration DVD’s.
What signal are you feeding it?
It will only look great if you have an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player sending it a 1080p signal.
Next up is 1080i and 720p HDTV broadcasts.
Then DVD, which is only 480p.
And lastly, standard cable will most likely look horrible as it’s only a 480i signal.
I’m personally not a fan of projection HDTVs. The $300+ bulb replacement is an issue for me, along with the dimming picture from various angles. If I was buy projection it would a front projector shooting a 100″+ picture onto an electric screen.
The best picture quality will be from a Pioneer or Panasonic plasma, followed by a Sony Bravia or Sharp Aquos LCD.
Well first, you bought an LCD projection TV that uses a lamp….this lamp is a Mercury Vapor lamp that creates a bright white light which is necessary for TRUE COLORS….a yellowish or greenish source of light would throw off colors…that’s why it MUST be Mercury Vapor!
It takes Merc Vapor lamps one minute to achieve FULL Brightness…..
Next, you SAW what that TV could do at the store…Wonderful picture, Hi Def, super sharp and crisp….
But you didn’t UPGRADE your video source, at least not yet….
So, you want to do some more shopping….with your Cable/Satellite provider….see how much it costs for an HD box and how much more per month it costs….
Now THAT is why you aren’t satisfied with your picture….you have Old-Time Low Definition signal going into a Hi Definition TV set.
You’ll be happy with it once you watch HD….
