Rear projection HDTV lamp question?

i have a 56″ rear projection hdtv from jvc, model # 56g886. I was told the lamp would run out after about 2,000 hours of use. After using it for maybe 4 hours a day for one year, i tried to turn it on and it wouldnt turn on, just the led and the power light were blinking rapidly. According to JVC’s website, this means the lamp has burnt out. I tried turning the tv on again, and now it works fine. Does this mean my lamp is close to going out, or just a freak coincidence? I would rather not order a lamp if nothings wrong, as they run about $300. But I also don’t want to wait a week with no tv while a new lamp is in the mail. Thanks for your time!!!!

I have a rear projection tv (different manufacturer) that has a filter that must be cleaned regularly (like every month or so) so that there is air flow sufficient to cool the bulb, which gets quite hot. It’s possible that your filter needs cleaning, and there might be an automatic shut off (a built-in circuit breaker) that gets triggered if the unit gets too hot. Maybe it started working again after it had cooled off.

Lamps become intermittant when the ARC GAP becomes too large to MAINTAIN the arc….

And that’s what is happeining to your lamp…sometimes it will fire and catch, other times it will catch but lose the arc. Especially when the TV is first started up. There will be days where it will function fine after warmup all day long, and then there will be days where it will take several times before the lamp stays lit…..

    Time for a new lamp….

You have a HDiLA (JVC’s version of a LCD rear-projection tv) and what you are describing is a weak lamp. I would purchase a new lamp and keep it in the closet, because you may need one very soon.
