Projection TV’s are a scam and Parts replacements are a ripoff. Agree?
Convergence boards and lamps always break and need replacing but the real problem is price of those components. They intentionally want you to buy from one manufacturer at hyper inflated prices. Most people are dumping their projection TV’s that may have a glitch then fix them.
Biggest scam.
Convergence boards and lamps always break and need replacing but the real problem is price of those components. They intentionally want you to buy from one manufacturer at hyper inflated prices. It’s kind of what the razor blade companies do. It’s called lock-in. Most of these parts are built so they fit only ‘their’ brand. Therefore the high prices – ZERO COMPETITION in parts. Most people are dumping their projection TV’s that may have a glitch then fix them.

They also weigh a ton. You have to be in front of the beast to get a clear picture. My son `parked his monstrosity at my house because of space. Now; here`s this big ugly heavy beast just sitting there. It`s a Pioneer and after looking at how cheap the materials are. AGREE!
No I don’t agree…I can fix a Projection TV set for $400, while a LCD TV set will run $500.
Same with Plasma, even higher sometimes.
As for LCD and DLP TV sets, you can replace the lamp for $250 by yourself. Then when it needs a TV tech, you will be looking at $400 or more….
So the Projection TV sets are not a scam and NOT a ripoff…
And if you think their prices are hyperinflated, I’d like to see you buy parts for a plasma or a LCD/DLP TV set.
And since YOU THINK YOU KNOW what the prices should be, maybe you should build one yourself…at your price.
Go ahead Mr Fix-it….
Not long ago, it’s the only way to get a big screen tv for your house (bigger than 35″). With the Plasma, LCD and LED tvs rear projection tv are coming to it’s end. Yes the repair cost is high, due to the labor cost, beside having the whole neighborhood help you move the tv. That’s why retail store try to up sell you on buying a warranty when you buy a tv, most of the time it’s useless. I had a Mitsubishi 65″ rear projection that the power switch broke and they wanted $500 to replace it, gave it away and bought a Plasma. Staying with name brands like Pioneer, Panasonic and Sumsang is better than the off brands for better quality and service support.
