My Samsung HDTV 1080p DLP rear projection TV now hums. What is wrong?

I just moved and am hoping that it didn’t get damaged. Everything else seems to work fine with it. When I am watching it, I can hear a hum. It gets louder as I turn the volume up, and it gets softer as the volume goes down. If I pause whatever I am watching, it continues to hum. It is incredibly annoying and distracting. Hitting the mute button is the only way to silence the noise. I have also changed cable companies from Time Warner to Cox. Could that possibly have anything to do with it? Through Time Warner I had two volumes I could adjust–a TV volume and a cable volume. Now with Cox I only seem to have 1 volume. Lastly, my 18-month old nephew decided to push a bunch of buttons on the TV, so I am wondering if he may have done something, too. I am NOT a techie and just want this fixed. What to do? It is a 61″ so taking it to get serviced would be very difficult.

    1. I assume you’re bringing your audio from the cable box. The problem may be in there. If there’s no hum when you watch a DVD, that’s probably your answer.
    2. If the hum is still there when you play a DVD, then it’s probably your power supply ripple, and you’ll need service.
