Is LCD rear projection the same thing as DLP? What makes LCD projection different or better?

Looking to buy a new tv, but want one that won’t die or be obsolete in 5 years. I’ve heard repairs on DLP are cheaper than most.

The LCD projection aren’t as good as regular LCD or Plasma. Drawbacks:

    1. They are deeper so you can’t hang them on a wall.

    2. From an angle they appear dimmer.

from what I understand DLP is a type of CRT projection, where there is sort of a projector in the back of the TV which produces light for you to view on the front of your TV (like a traditional TV or computer monitor) So while you just can’t hang it up on a wall like a LCD or a Plasma, DLP will ultimately give you the greatest color fidelity, and thus the best quality. Not to mention that you shouldn’t put an LCD in a room that gets a lot of sunlight, since it dampers the viewing experience. As for the time tested scenario, I would say that of the two, a 1080i or 1080p DLP would probably last for 5 years.

LCD rear is a type of style for a tv. DLP is a technology that processes the image, whereas lcd rear is telling you that the dispay is mad from liquid crystals instead of the standard flat screen. dlp is a processor that produces thousands of tiny mirrors to create an image. dlp is cheaper but both are basically equal in terms of performance. you might get a slightly brighter and sharper picture on lcd depending on the brand. i have a 60″ sony LCD rear projection 1080p hdtv and i love it. i recommend buying that one. it was only $2500.

LCD Rear Projection is not the Same as DLP.

DLPs use technology created by Texas Instruments.
    Check out http://www.DLP.com for specifics.

LCD Rear Projection check out Sony’s models for a good screen.

If you’re looking at a 1080P set, the DLP’s use something called Wobulation that produces the 1080P picture. Basically it flashes have the pixels in 1/60th of second, and the other half the next 60th of a second. Tricking your eyes to thinking that you’re watching 1080P. I know some people have problems with this, their eyes / brain catch it and it gives them a headache or something called the Rainbow affect.

With LCD Rear Projection you’re actually seeing 1920×1080 pixels at the same time. So its a better picture.

JVC also makes a nice Rear Projection TV. You should check out.

Both of these technologies will probably be obsolete in 5 years as things like OLED and SED come out.
