Can anyone tell the difference between using component and hdmi cables with xbox 360?

I have a 60″ 1080p Projection TV and I’m wondering if i should buy the HDMI cables. If there’s no difference then I would just use component cables. But if there is a big difference in the graphics i will buy the cables, At best buy i can get a no name brand hdmi cable for $24.99. Is it worth it to buy the cable?

I’m not sure if this helps but i have a 50″ 720p projection tv (i was told in the store it was 1080p but i think it’s really 720p). I had gotten my halo edition 360 and was under the impression it came with that particular cable. It didn’t. I called microsoft and they offered to send me there HDMI cable for no charge. It took several weeks to receive but i finally got it. I did not notice a difference and neither did my boyfriend. Maybe its because my tv is 720p but i’m still trying to figure out if its 720 or 1080.

    The theory part:

HDMI is “all digital”: Your Xbox of course produces video in digital form, then for component the video has to go through D-to-A converters. Since you most likely have an LCD or DLP projection TV (I don’t think anyone ever made a CRT projection unit with HDMI inputs), your TV is, ultimately, a digital device. So the analog signals in component have to be converted back to digital by the TV. HDMI avoids those two conversions.

    The practice part:

Any difference will be very small – in fact it’s often unnoticeable.

Furthermore, HDMI can be problematical due to bad HDCP implementations.

Bottom line… I wouldn’t bother unless you had some compelling reason to prefer HDMI (if, for example, all of your TV’s component inputs were already in use).

nope, when comparing HDMI and component cables the picture quality is almost exactly the same. The only real advantage HDMI has over component is sound quality and just convenience of using one cord instead of five.

The graphics will stay the same weather you play on an SDTV or an HDTV. Higher resolution doesn’t equal better graphics. On amazon.com you can get a no name HDMI cable for $0.01, so I would do that.

HDMI Gives you better digital audio and video. The benefits of HDMI vs your regular RCA Cable is HDMI transfers uncompressed digital audio and video leading to the best digital quality possible since there is no degradation of the signal through compression/decompression processes.

I got inexpensive cables since it is a digital signal either you get a signal or you dont it doesn’t matter how much the cable is they all work the same digital audio and video in one cable !!!
