Best Sony LCD TV?
Which is best for the money? I’ve narrowed it down to the KDL-52XBR4, KDL-52W3000, and KDS-60A3000. The KDL-52XBR4 and KDL-52W3000 seem almost identical. Are the minor differences worth the extra $500? Also, the KDS-60A3000 is the biggest and cheapest out of these. But is it really true that for rear projection tv’s the bulb needs to be replaced every couple of years?

The KDL-52XBR4 and KDL-52W3000 are almost the same TVs. The XBR4 has the 120Hz motion flow and a swapable frame bezel. You’ll have to see in person if the 120Hz is pleasant for viewing fast action and is worth the extra money.
Some people find the double rate distracting and weird to view. Some stores have 120Hz LCD next to regular HD LCD showing the same programming (spiderman 3).
Most online reviews say the W3000 series have 120Hz. It does not. I own a KDL-46W3000. The place I bought it from had wrong specs on this model. It was too late for me to return it (auction site). My friend bought a 52″ inch one from the same place. We thought we were getting 120Hz LCD for cheap.
Yes it true about the bulb replacements. You really don’t want that huge bulky thing in your theater room. I’ve seen refurbish one for sale already on Sony’s website. There in closeout clearance sales. Yesterday’s technology.
Sony XBR series TVs are great, but are also very over-priced for what they are.
Do some comparison shopping with other brands, like Samsung (which is in partnership with Sony for manufacturing LCD panels), Sharp, LG, and Olevia (I know, cheap brand…I have one though, and my friends that spent twice as much on their TVs tell me the picture on mine looks better…I wonder though). You’ll probably find that the other brands are less expensive for the same quality, or the same price for something better.
